CATS PhD student James Garofalo has been selected to receive the American Society of Composites’ (ASC) PhD Scholarship for the academic year 2017-18. The award has two parts. The first part is a grant of $1,000 to James to support his research. The second part is reimbursement of travel expenses up to $1,250 including conference registration to help him attend the annual ASC 32nd Technical Conference at Purdue University and accept the award at the conference banquet. Rensselaer will be responsible for administering the Northeast Regional Manufacturing Center (RMC) of the DOE Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII), involving regional partners from industry, academia, and government. Overall, the CESMII partners will bring more than $140 million in public-private investment from industry and acedemia to develop smart technologies and systems for use in advanced manufacturing.
